Artist Statement

Approaching retirement from my career as an Air Traffic Controller, I needed to switch from “left-brained” (analytical, methodical, logical) to “right-brained” (artsy, creative, emotional) thinking.  I began making clay tiles and mosaics as a way to release the whimsical part of my personality.

My friend said, “Make art out the junk you have around the house.”  Direct marking catalogs, known as ‘junk mail’ became the raw material I currently use in my collages.

I’ve always loved photography and use mine as inspiration for collages, paintings, and print making.

As for my paintings, they are primarily pet portraits for family, friends, and friends of friends.  I attempt to capture the light in their eyes to honor their spirit, and the colors I use are a direct reflection of the owner’s preference, making this portfolio a colorful kaleidoscope.

Linoleum printmaking is my most recent endeavor, experimenting with black and white brings art back to the basics.

When not creating, I’m with my partner cycling through the country side, hiking with our dogs in the surrounding mountains, traveling to new places, meeting new people, and eating good food.

Art History

In the late 70’s, I obtained my Associates of Arts before a detour into the world of Air Traffic Control.   I worked in New York, Atlanta, and Denver Center, raised three amazing individuals and married my best friend before returning to fine art.  A few workshops here and there and I was on my way.
